Foreign tourists have returned
nationalities accounting for foreign bednights in Copenhagen proper, 2023
After years of absence during the coronavirus pandemic, for eign visitors are back, and 2023 will likely end up showing more foreign bednights than the previous record year 2019. American hotel guests in particular have returned and, together with German guests, accounted for a quarter of the total foreign bednights in Copenhagen. However, Chinese, and other Asian travellers have still not returned on the scale seen before the coronavirus outbreak. In addition, fewer guests are visiting from Norway and Sweden, as weakened currencies in the two neighbouring countries have made Denmark an expensive destination. German tourism has generally been synonymous with holi day homes and the North Sea, but Germans are increasingly visiting Copenhagen. The large, annual survey ReiseAnalyse 1 showed in 2022 that almost 8 million Germans are interested in vacationing in Copenhagen within three years.
