Ørestad

Main residential development areas Ørestad (including Bellakvarter) Dating back only to 1997, Ørestad is a relatively new Copen- hagen mixed-use commercial and residential district that ex tends more than five kilometres from the outskirts of the Copenhagen city centre to the edge of Copenhagen Airport on the island of Amager. The district has six metro stations, among them Ørestad station, which also provides regional train links to a wide catchment area, including Malmoe in Sweden. Once fully developed, in about 13 or 14 years from now, the district will house 3.1 million sq m floorspace, with commercial uses accounting for 50%, residential for 40% and cultural facilities, services, retail trade and institutions for the residual 10%. This eventually translates into some 80,000 workplaces and more than 25,000 residents. Some 22,000 people already live in Ørestad, mainly 20-39 year olds, and the district today has 21,000 workplaces. Ørestad is divided into distinctive sub-districts, Ørestad Nord, Øre- stad City and Ørestad Syd. The next stages in the develop ment of Ørestad are Bellakvarter and Ørestad S. On sched

Sydhavn Sydhavn (the south harbour) is a harbour district about two kilometres south of the Copenhagen city centre, bordering on new office buildings, hotels, etc. Furthermore, it lies in proximity of the Fisketorvet Copen- hagen Mall shopping centre on the Kalvebod Brygge water- front. Sydhavn has multiple development areas, including Enghave Brygge, Teglholmen, Sluseholmen and Stejle- pladsen. The latter area, developed by domestic pension fund PFA, will become a new sustainable Copenhagen dis trict overlooking the Fiskerihavnen harbour and neighbour ing a large green expanse. The vision for Stejlepladsen is to construct some 52,000 sq m residential space, equivalent to some 900 dwellings.
