In the years preceding the coronavirus pandemic, the Danish hotel industry was booming, mainly in Copenhagen. Having experienced anabrupt halt in 2020 and limited revenues in 2021, the hotel mar ket picked up again in 2022, prompting new hotel schemes and renewed investor demand for hotels. Following two difficult years in the shadows of the pandemic, the outlook brightened in 2022. Copenhagen bednight figures reached nearly 7.9 mil lion in the first 11 months of the year, against the former record high of 7.5 million bednights in the same period of 2019, even though COVID-19 restric tions were not finally lifted until 1 February, putting a damper on activity in early 2022. The same picture is seen in the rest of Denmark, with only the first quarter of the year seeing lower bednight figures than in 2019.
