visibility due to its location near Nørreport station. The area predominantly features brands selling homeware, houseware and the like, as well as cafés and restaurants. Among others, Gasoline Grill and Jagger have opened stores on Købmagergade. Especially in this area and the part of Købmagergade that meets Amagertorv, the street scene is increasingly characterised by fashion disap pearing. In late January 2025, Profil Optik opened its new flagship store in the upper end of Købmagergade, on the corner of Nørreport. The lower end of Strøget, including Vimmelskaftet, terminating at Rådhuspladsen, today features a mix of traditional retail shops, bars, restaurants, etc. A small consortium, backed financially by the City of Copen hagen, has formed to revive Frederiksberggade. Against this backdrop, there is a strong expectation that the area will reposition itself as a more attractive future retail location.

Fiolstræde, as well as a host of side streets running off Strøget, the Copenhagen Latin Quarter contains a mix of small retail shops, bars, cafés, night clubs and restau rants. Backed by recent years’ thriving Copenhagen food and restaurant scene, many new coffee shops, sandwich, and juice bars as well as bakery shops have opened in the district. Featuring a substantial proportion of period properties, the side streets running off the Copenhagen high street offer a wide range of specialty shops, cafés and restau rants. By providing alternatives to the international brand retailers at Strøget and Købmagergade, the side streets attract increasing activity, creating their own identity, and adding to the bustling shopping environment in the city centre. The area includes the streets of Kronprinsensgade and Pilestræde, which both seem to have made a strong comeback, along with Ny Østergade, Sværtegade, Kristen Bernikows Gade, Grønnegade and Christian IX’s Gade, which generally offer lower rent levels than those commanded at Strøget. As a result, they appeal to a broad range of retailers and concepts.
