Instead of having two stores close to each other, more tenants are choosing to open flagship stores where they are willing to pay a higher rent due to a better location
Rådhuspladsen (City Hall Square)
Note: Count of retail vacancies at Strøget, Copenhagen, conducted at year-start 2024. Vacant units include units let on fixed-term lease agreements (pop-ups and similar). Source: Colliers
Backed by recent years’ thriving Copenhagen food and restaurant scene, many new coffee shops, sandwich, and juice bars as well as bakery shops have opened in the district. Featuring a substantial proportion of period properties, the side streets running off the Copenhagen high street offer a wide range of specialty shops, cafés and restau rants. By providing alternatives to the international brand
retailers at Strøget and Købmagergade, the side streets attract increasing activity, creating their own identity, and adding to the bustling shopping environment in the city centre. Including the streets of Kronprinsensgade, Pilestræde, Ny Østergade, Sværtegade, Kristen Bernikows Gade, Grøn negade and Christian IX’s Gade, the area offers lower rent levels than those commanded at Strøget.
