When the first lockdowns hit society in 2020, virtu ally all shopping goods stores, shopping centres and cinemas were forced to shut down, allowing mainly shops selling or delivering vital articles such as gro ceries and medicine to stay open. This further accelerated the transformation that had already started five years earlier, when e-commerce and the experience economy made their entry in the otherwise so traditional seg ment. Similarly, marketing channels have seen a shift from flyers and advertising circulars to include a range of digital, direct and indirect media that only parts of the retail sector had formerly taken into use.
