being supported by excellent connectivity in terms of metro and bus services along with proximity to green spaces and central Copenhagen, all within biking distance. A landmark of the area is Njals Tårn, a construction project by Bach Gruppen, which was halted in 2020. Despite a new deadline for completion in mid-2023, the controversial tower still stands as an unfinished sketch in the cityscape. Currently, both Bach Gruppen and the Technical and Environmental Administration of the City of Copenhagen are working on finalising the reports before the work to complete the construction can begin. Jernbanebyen Involving approx. 365,000 sq m floorspace, Jernbanebyen (railway city) is one of Copenhagen’s largest development areas, and one of the very last in central Copenhagen. Jernbanebyen is divided into two subareas, one originally owned by Freja Ejendomme, the other by DSB Ejendoms udvikling. In 2021, Freja Ejendomme sold its share of Jernbanebyen, a plot of 78,000 sq m, to Baneby Konsortiet, which is owned equally by Novo Holding, Industriens Pension and Nrep. In 2023, DSB Ejendomsudvikling entered into a conditional joint venture agreement with Baneby Konsortiet, enabling a joint ownership of the development area once a local plan has been adopted. However, because of the change in market conditions, Baneby Konsortiet decided not to exercise the acquisition option. DSB Ejendomsudvikling is therefore looking for a new partner in order to proceed with the development of their share of Jernbanebyen. Jernbanebyen has its own characteristic identity, shaped by the area’s former industrial identity as a hub for railway traffic. Today, for instance a former railway depot has been repurposed into a community centre/venue. In addition, the area forms a natural link between the modern skyline of Sydhavn and historical Vesterbro. These factors are funda mental to the overall vision of creating a new city district that combines the best qualities of both worlds, the present and the past: innovation and sustainability with history and singu larity. Sustainability in particular will be a recurring trend for the neighbourhood, which will pave the way for the sustai nable cities of the future as a global pilot project launched by the international city network C40. The neighbourhood will be the first in Copenhagen to be partially car-free.
