Denmark Lolland

Triangle Region retaining strong position The Fehmarnbelt link will be one of the largest construction schemes ever seen in northern Europe, with the link no doubt envisaged to constitute an important part of the European road grid. For this reason, the EU Commission has declared the Fehmarnbelt link to be one of the most important infrastruc ture projects in Europe, representing part of the backbone of European economy. Danish import trade from countries south of the border used to be handled by lorry transport up through Germany and across the border to southern Jutland. As a result, the Triangle Region has served a strategically important func tion as gateway to remaining parts of Jutland, Zealand and the Øresund region. The Fehmarnbelt link will provide an alternative to the Triangle Region, offering quicker access to Copenhagen and the remain ing part of the Øresund region for transport from eastern Europe in particular. However, the strategic location of the Triangle Region is undisputable, and the region will remain an important and attractive logistics and industrial hub in terms of goods deliveries to most Danish consumers. From an export business perspective, most physical goods continue to be man ufactured outside Zealand and are therefore hauled via the Triangle Region on to the countries south of Denmark.
